The story behind Cedar Pathfield

Tom Calloway · Established since 2014

Tom Calloway started Cedar Pathfield in the spring of 2014 after eight years working for a large landscaping contractor in the East Midlands. The company was good at volume. It was less good at slowing down. Tom spent those years learning the technical side properly, how to read a gradient, how to set a kerb line, how to lay a French drain that will still be working in twenty years. But he grew tired of the pace and the corners that got cut when a job needed to be finished by Friday. He left in January 2014 with a second-hand Ifor Williams trailer and a list of three potential clients.

Tom Calloway spent eight years as a groundworker and site foreman for a large landscaping contractor in the East Midlands before starting Cedar Pathfield in 2014. He trained on the job, learning drainage and hard landscaping from a retired civil engineer named Pete Marsh who had spent thirty years laying roads before he moved into garden work. Tom is a slow reader of sites and a fast digger of drains. On quiet mornings he listens to old country records while he loads the trailer. His regular at the Bingham job in 2015 is still a client today.
